ABOUT US
Mercury Paint is a family-run business founded in 1947 by Joseph Berman, along with his two sons Benjamin and Daniel. When Daniel’s son, Jeff, current President and Chief Executive Officer, along with his son-in-law, Freddy Tichner, current Vice President of Sales, began working, the company had only 30 employees and two locations. Today, Mercury operates two distribution facilities and employs nearly 100 people, including Tichner’s son, making it a fourth-generation company.
Having survived a massive industry-wide consolidation, Mercury is now New York’s largest independent paint manufacturer, providing paints and specialized coatings to both the public and private sector. Mercury Paint manufactures a full range of products from heavy-duty industrial maintenance coatings to the finest quality architectural finishes. Products are distributed throughout the New York Metropolitan area, including Long Island, Westchester, and as far south as Virginia. Additionally, Mercury Paint’s dealer division distributes its Harco, General Coatings, and Sampson brands through a host of independent retailers throughout New York City and neighboring states. Mercury Paint custom designs, formulates and manufactures coatings for virtually every application imaginable, including paint that can withstand temperatures of over 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit and even photoluminescent paint that will glow in the dark. Mercury’s specialized coatings can be found on scaffolds, parking lots, the Cyclone roller coaster and Wonder Wheel at Coney Island, Citi Field and Yankee Stadium, as well as virtually every traffic signal device in the five boroughs.
Mercury’s paints have been used by some of the most high-profile commercial and residential buildings, educational institutions, hospitals, hotels, and most of the bridges and transit infrastructure in New York City. The company’s list of municipal clients includes New York City’s Housing Authority, New York City Transit Authority, the city Department of Parks & Recreation, School Construction Authority, Department of Corrections, NYPD and Department of Sanitation. Mercury also serves a tremendous number of property management firms and has been a part of such large residential complexes as Coop City in the Bronx, Starrett City in Brooklyn and Rochdale Village in Queens.
Having signed a long-term exclusive manufacturing and distribution agreement with PPG Paints, the world’s largest coatings manufacturer, they are extremely excited about their future growth potential in the New York City marketplace. Although they are a recognized local manufacturer, known for high-quality product and competitive pricing, their new relationship with PPG puts them on every new construction project in NYC as well as other high-profile projects.
At Mercury Paint, there is a shared ongoing vision of being a recognized leader in the development and manufacture of sustainable products that preserve and protect the environment. That is why they are very proud of their Go Green program, a companywide commitment to reducing the impact of their products on the environment. Furthermore, since its inception, the company has made a priority of hiring locally, and has worked with the Doe Fund, a New York nonprofit organization helping formerly homeless men and women return to independence. Mercury Paint attributes the success of the company to their hardworking, loyal, multi-generational employees, many of which hail from countries such as Haiti, Pakistan, Ghana, and Jamaica.
